ESPN RADIO & ME

I love FB's "On This Day" feature.  Look at what I posted one year ago today.

​Sooooooo I'm gonna need y'all to sit down for this one cuz I simply cannot believe it myself.

So remember last week when I told y'all that out the blue I got a call from a MAJOR radio network offering me a weekly segment in which I could choose what I wanted to do?!?

And remember I said when I could tell you who it is, it will make sense that this is nothing but God cuz there is no way I should be given this opportunity?

And then I told you guys that my mom laughed so hard that she started choking and all of my cousins laughed at me?

Well, it's confirmed.

​Starting May 5th, I will do a weekly segment for ESPN Radio-New Orleans!!!!!!!

Let me put this in perspective for you.

I am the product of a superstar basketball player Mama and a 6'4" superstar basketball player Daddy (who's now deceased). Yet, there is not one athletic bone in my body. I was more interested in being a cheerleader and into the arts, which my Mom nurtured.

I don't follow sports at all except for football and that's because I read "Football for Dummies." Stop laughing at me!

However, what I do love about sports is the humanity behind the athletes, the resilience mindset and the history.

But still...

What in the heck could ESPN want with me?!?

The person who pitched me would not let me talk myself out of it and told me, "I don't know what you are gonna do but you betta go figure it out."

Working in TV for 20 years...I started calling some of my producer friends and had them put on their thinking caps...that's after they stopped laughing asking, "ESPN called YOU?!??!" LOL

But then it hit me..."you might want to go to the real source of this opportunity." So I immediately prayed and told God, "Lord, if you are handing this to me then you are gonna show me what you want me to do with it."

Never to let me down, what evolved was sheer yumminess. Yumminess I can fully embrace and be authentically me without worrying about keeping players straight and up on my latest stats and who got traded and who got drafted. After all, if I'm nothing else...I...AM...A...STORYTELLER!

And so that's what I did a few minutes ago on a video conference with the host. I told him a story and I took him on a journey with me as a sample segment.

When I got to the pivot point of the story my heart leaped to see the three people who were listening to my tale jump up and yell "AWWWWWW YOOOOO THAT'S DOPE!"

My soul celebrated because it was exactly the reaction I wanted and for that...God gets all the Glory! Three words that I never ever never ever thought I'd see in the same sentence, "TeeJ Mercer" and "ESPN." Yeah...that's a straight God move.

So hey FB...I'm TeeJ Mercer, the creator and host of the segment, "The Pivot Point with TeeJ Mercer."

Oh and get this. They want to put my segment at the top of the show.

#BOOM Moral of the story...operate in your genius, stand tall in your brilliance and folks will take notice.
